We here at RTW encourage people to catch more fish, but we also hope that you’ll
be sensitive and respectful of fishing ecosystems. We always practice catch-and-release. We always use barbless hooks (or we
pinch down the barbs on any barbed flies we purchase). We always keep the caught fish underwater as much as possible while
releasing it from the fly. These simple practices ensure that the fish we catch and the beautiful places where we fish will
be preserved for all to enjoy. We believe that responsible fishermen can be a great benefit to our fisheries and to the
environment in general, especially when we educate ourselves about the ecosystems in which we fish. We should lead by example
when it comes to respecting nature.
In our commitment to protect our fisheries ReadTheWater.com contributes to the following charities:
Trout Unlimited
American Forests
In addition, we promote sustainable forestry by using and encouraging others to use only FSC-Certified Wood products (Forest Stewardship
Council) in our homes and businesses. Sustainable forestry is directly linked to the health of our river systems. Read more about the FSC.
Finally we encourage everyone to get educated about wild, protected, and endanged species of fish. Please comply with local protections
so that these fish can survive into the future. Learn more about protected fish in
your area.
